The samples in your file reach your DAC unchanged. Fermata switches the device to the file’s sample rate and shows the signal path in Now Playing. It needs the original stream (not a transcode), volume at 100%, ReplayGain off, a device clock that matches the source and enough bit depth. Audio passes through a 32-bit float mixer, which is lossless for sources up to 24-bit. When any condition fails, Now Playing lists the reason.

Yes. Your library metadata lives on your Mac, so you can browse with the server off. Streamed tracks are cached up to a size you choose, and downloaded tracks stay until you remove them. A failed sync never deletes your library.

Turn on Data Saver. On Low Data Mode or a metered connection such as a hotspot, Fermata asks the server for a smaller MP3 or Opus stream.

No. There are no analytics and no crash-reporting SDKs. Passwords, tokens and API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain only. See the privacy page for details.

Yes, to your own server, to Last.fm (with your own API key) and to ListenBrainz. Each can be switched on per source and per radio station. Nothing is contacted until you enable it.

Fermata imports JSPF and XSPF playlists, including ListenBrainz exports, with a review step before anything is added. You can export them back the same way.
